Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (e.g., tilapia, snapper) - 300 grams
  • Tamarind paste - 3 tablespoons
  • Fresh lime juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Water - 150 ml

Steps

  1. Heat the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix the tamarind paste, fresh lime juice, and water until well combined.
  3. Pour the tamarind mixture into the skillet with the sautéed onion and garlic. Stir well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Season the white fish fillets with salt and black pepper on both sides. Carefully place the fillets into the skillet, spooning some sauce over them.
  5. Cover the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped cilantro before serving.
