Ingredients

  • Whole fish (e.g., tilapia or snapper) - 500 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red onion - 1 medium, sliced
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, diced
  • Cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Avocado - 1 medium, sliced

Steps

  1. Start by cleaning the fish, removing scales and entrails, and pat it dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, mix olive oil, minced garlic, lime juice, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Rub the marinade generously over the fish, making sure to get some inside the cavity. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  5. Grill the fish for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. While the fish is grilling, prepare the salsa by combining diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, and chopped cilantro in a bowl. Season with a pinch of salt and lime juice.
  7. Once the fish is done, remove it from the grill and serve with avocado slices and the fresh salsa on the side.
