Ingredients

  • Nopales - 400 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Queso Fresco - 50 grams, crumbled (optional, for serving)
  • Avocado - 1, sliced (for serving)
  • Tortillas - 4 (for serving)

Steps

  1. Begin by rinsing the nopales under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Carefully trim the edges of the nopales to remove the spines and any thick parts.
  3. In a bowl, mix the olive oil, minced garlic, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Add the nopales and toss to coat thoroughly.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Once hot, place the nopales on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until they are tender and have nice grill marks.
  5. Remove the nopales from the grill and let them cool slightly. Cut them into strips.
  6. Serve the grilled nopales warm, garnished with fresh cilantro, crumbled queso fresco, and slices of avocado. Pair with warm tortillas.
