Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 300 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion - 1 small, diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Chili powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Canned diced tomatoes - 200 grams
  • Unsweetened tomato sauce - 100 grams
  • Cream cheese - 100 grams, softened
  • Shredded cheddar cheese - 150 grams
  • Cilantro - for garnish, optional

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the diced onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Add the canned diced tomatoes and tomato sauce to the skillet, stir, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with half of the shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.
  8. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the beef mixture, then spread the cream cheese mixture over it, followed by the remaining beef mixture.
  9. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
