Ingredients
- Nopales - 200 grams, diced
- Ground turkey or chicken - 250 grams
- Black beans - 100 grams, drained and rinsed
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Avocado - 1, sliced
- Whole wheat burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Tomato - 1, sliced
Steps
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the diced nopales to the skillet and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes until they soften. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey or chicken with the black beans, cooked nopales, cilantro, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into two patties, ensuring they are even in thickness.
- In the same skillet, cook the patties over medium heat for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F).
- While the patties are cooking, toast the whole wheat burger buns in a separate pan or under the broiler until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked patty, slices of avocado, and tomato. Top with the other half of the bun.
- Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
