Ingredients

  • Masa harina - 200 grams
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Vegetarian chicharrón (textured vegetable protein) - 100 grams
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lime - 1, juiced

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the masa harina and salt. Gradually add water and mix until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into 4 equal balls.
  2. Flatten each ball into a thick tortilla using your hands or a tortilla press.
  3. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until they are translucent.
  4. Add the vegetarian chicharrón to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with pepper and lime juice, and mix in the chopped cilantro.
  5. In another skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove the tortillas from the skillet and fill each with the chicharrón mixture. Serve warm with additional lime and cilantro if desired.
