- Masa harina - 200 grams
- Water - 200 ml
- Vegetarian chicharrón (textured vegetable protein) - 100 grams
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lime - 1, juiced
Steps
- In a bowl, combine the masa harina and salt. Gradually add water and mix until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into 4 equal balls.
- Flatten each ball into a thick tortilla using your hands or a tortilla press.
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until they are translucent.
- Add the vegetarian chicharrón to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with pepper and lime juice, and mix in the chopped cilantro.
- In another skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the tortillas from the skillet and fill each with the chicharrón mixture. Serve warm with additional lime and cilantro if desired.
