Ingredients

  • sweetened condensed milk - 200 ml
  • evaporated milk - 100 ml
  • large eggs - 2
  • vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • sugar - 60 grams (for caramel)
  • water - 2 tablespoons (for caramel)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat to make the caramel. Stir until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden amber color. Remove from heat and quickly pour the caramel into a 6-inch round flan mold, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
  3. In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour the milk mixture over the caramel in the flan mold.
  5. Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish and fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold (bain-marie method).
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Remove the flan from the oven and the water bath, and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert it onto a plate, and enjoy the caramel sauce that flows over it.
