Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 125 grams
  • water - 150 ml
  • coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
  • sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - a pinch
  • sugar (for coating) - 50 grams
  • vegetable oil (for frying) - enough for deep frying

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, coconut oil, and sugar. Heat over medium until the mixture is warm and the oil is melted.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Pour the warm liquid mixture into the dry ingredients and add vanilla extract. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot.
  6. Pipe 10 cm long strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove churros and drain on paper towels.
  8. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish and roll the churros in the mixture while still warm.
  9. Serve immediately with a dipping chocolate or your favorite vegan sauce.
