- water - 250 ml
- unsalted butter - 50 g
- all-purpose flour - 125 g
- vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- eggs - 2 large
- cocoa powder - 2 tbsp
- whey protein powder - 30 g
- sugar - 50 g (for coating)
- cinnamon - 1 tsp (for coating)
- oil (for frying) - 500 ml
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine water and butter over medium heat until the butter is melted.
- Add flour, salt, and vanilla extract, stirring until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Then, add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, mix cocoa powder and whey protein powder. Gently fold this mixture into the churro dough until fully incorporated.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 180°C (350°F).
- Fill a piping bag with the churro dough and cut the tip to create a star shape.
- Pipe strips of dough into hot oil, cutting them to your desired length, and fry until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
- Remove churros and drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in the sugar mixture until fully coated.
