Ingredients

  • water - 250 ml
  • unsalted butter - 50 g
  • all-purpose flour - 125 g
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • eggs - 2 large
  • cocoa powder - 2 tbsp
  • whey protein powder - 30 g
  • sugar - 50 g (for coating)
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp (for coating)
  • oil (for frying) - 500 ml

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine water and butter over medium heat until the butter is melted.
  2. Add flour, salt, and vanilla extract, stirring until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Then, add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix cocoa powder and whey protein powder. Gently fold this mixture into the churro dough until fully incorporated.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Fill a piping bag with the churro dough and cut the tip to create a star shape.
  7. Pipe strips of dough into hot oil, cutting them to your desired length, and fry until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
  8. Remove churros and drain on paper towels.
  9. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in the sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy your protein-packed churros filled with chocolate goodness!
