Ingredients

  • Rolled oats - 100 grams
  • Whole wheat flour - 50 grams
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Honey or maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
  • Unsweetened almond milk - 120 ml
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Cinnamon sugar (for coating) - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a blender, pulse the rolled oats until they become a fine flour.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the oat flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the honey (or maple syrup) with almond milk until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  6. In a deep pan, heat the coconut oil over medium heat until hot.
  7. Pipe strips of dough (about 10 cm long) into the hot oil, frying them in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the churros and drain on paper towels, then roll them in cinnamon sugar while still warm.
  9. Serve warm with a side of chocolate sauce or fruit dip if desired.
