Ingredients

  • Canned sardines in olive oil - 1 can (about 120g)
  • Lime juice - 3 tablespoons
  • Red onion - 1/4, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Avocado - 1 small, diced
  • Cucumber - 1/2, diced
  • Jalapeño - 1 teaspoon, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Tortilla chips - for serving

Steps

  1. Open the can of sardines and drain the oil. Place the sardines in a mixing bowl and gently break them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Add the lime juice to the sardines and let them marinate for about 5 minutes to enhance the flavor.
  3. In the same bowl, add the chopped red onion, diced tomato, chopped cilantro, diced avocado, diced cucumber, and finely chopped jalapeño (if using).
  4. Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste. Gently toss to combine all the ingredients without mashing the avocado.
  5. Serve the ceviche immediately with tortilla chips on the side.
