Ingredients

  • Mero (grouper) fillet - 300 grams, diced
  • Fresh lime juice - 100 ml
  • Fresh orange juice - 50 ml
  • Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Cucumber - 1 small, diced
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Jalapeño pepper - 1 small, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Avocado - 1 small, sliced (for serving)
  • Tortilla chips - for serving

Steps

  1. In a glass or ceramic bowl, combine the diced mero fillet with lime juice and orange juice. Ensure the fish is fully submerged in the juice.
  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 15 minutes, or until the fish turns opaque and is 'cooked' by the citrus juices.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the vegetables: finely chop the red onion, dice the tomato and cucumber, and chop the fresh cilantro and jalapeño (if using).
  4. Once the fish is ready, drain excess citrus juice, and gently mix in the chopped vegetables and cilantro. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Serve the ceviche chilled, garnished with slices of avocado and accompanied by tortilla chips.
