Ingredients
- Mero (grouper) fillet - 300 grams, diced
- Fresh lime juice - 100 ml
- Fresh orange juice - 50 ml
- Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, diced
- Cucumber - 1 small, diced
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Jalapeño pepper - 1 small, finely chopped (optional)
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Avocado - 1 small, sliced (for serving)
- Tortilla chips - for serving
Steps
- In a glass or ceramic bowl, combine the diced mero fillet with lime juice and orange juice. Ensure the fish is fully submerged in the juice.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 15 minutes, or until the fish turns opaque and is 'cooked' by the citrus juices.
- Meanwhile, prepare the vegetables: finely chop the red onion, dice the tomato and cucumber, and chop the fresh cilantro and jalapeño (if using).
- Once the fish is ready, drain excess citrus juice, and gently mix in the chopped vegetables and cilantro. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve the ceviche chilled, garnished with slices of avocado and accompanied by tortilla chips.
