Ingredients
- Nopal cactus paddles - 2 large
- Ground beef (80% lean) - 250 grams
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lime - 1, juiced
- Jalapeño - 1, sliced (optional)
- Queso fresco - 50 grams, crumbled
Steps
- Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium heat.
- While the grill is heating, prepare the nopal cactus paddles by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Form the mixture into two patties.
- Place the cactus paddles on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are tender and have grill marks. Remove them from the grill and set aside.
- On the same grill, cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- Once the patties are cooked, squeeze lime juice over them to enhance the flavor.
- To assemble the burger, place a beef patty between two cactus paddles. Top with avocado slices, cilantro, and jalapeño if desired. Sprinkle crumbled queso fresco on top.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your Cactus Burger!
