- Nopal cactus pads - 2 medium-sized
- Ground turkey - 250 grams
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Whole wheat burger buns - 2
- Avocado - 1 small, sliced
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lime - 1, juiced
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Red onion - 1/4, thinly sliced
Steps
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat.
- Rinse the nopal cactus pads under cold water and pat dry. Remove any spines using a knife.
- Brush the nopal pads with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side until tender and slightly charred. Remove and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and form into two burger patties.
- Grill the turkey patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F).
- While the turkey patties are cooking, toast the whole wheat burger buns on the grill until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a turkey patty on each bun, topping with grilled nopal, avocado slices, tomato, red onion, and chopped cilantro. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the top before closing the burger.
- Serve immediately with a side of your choice.
