Ingredients

  • Ground beef (90% lean) - 300 grams
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Cheddar cheese (shredded) - 50 grams
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Tomato (sliced) - 1 medium
  • Avocado (sliced) - 1/2
  • Sour cream - 2 tablespoons
  • Hot sauce - to taste

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, chopped cilantro, and lime juice. Mix until just combined.
  2. Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty about 2 cm thick.
  3. Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F). During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with shredded cheddar cheese and cover to melt.
  4. While the patties are cooking, toast the whole wheat burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun, then layer with lettuce, tomato slices, avocado, and a dollop of sour cream. Add hot sauce to taste.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy your high-protein Burguer de Res!
