Ingredients

  • shrimp - 250 grams, peeled and deveined
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • egg - 1, beaten
  • breadcrumbs - 1/4 cup
  • olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • burger buns - 2, preferably whole grain
  • avocado - 1, mashed
  • hot sauce - to taste
  • lettuce - 2 leaves
  • tomato - 1, sliced

Steps

  1. In a food processor, combine the shrimp, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until the mixture is finely chopped but not pureed.
  2. Transfer the shrimp mixture to a bowl and add the beaten egg and breadcrumbs. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into two patties, pressing firmly to hold their shape.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the shrimp patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. While the patties are cooking, prepare the spicy avocado sauce by mixing the mashed avocado with hot sauce to taste.
  6. To assemble the burgers, place a lettuce leaf on each burger bun, followed by the shrimp patty, a slice of tomato, and a generous dollop of spicy avocado sauce. Top with the other half of the bun.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite side.
