Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 1 cup (120g)
  • Baking powder - 1 tsp (4g)
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp (1g)
  • Cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp (1g)
  • Plant-based milk (almond or soy) - 1/2 cup (120ml)
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp (25g)
  • Vanilla extract - 1 tsp (5ml)
  • Oil for frying - as needed
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon powder.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the plant-based milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick but pourable.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat, enough to submerge the buñuelos.
  5. Once the oil is hot, use a spoon to drop small amounts of batter into the oil, frying a few at a time. Fry until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the buñuelos from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
