- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 1/3 cup
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Cinnamon sugar - for dusting (1 tablespoon sugar + 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 2 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and roll each piece into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
- In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat (about 180°C / 350°F).
- Fry each dough circle for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the buñuelos from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- While still warm, dust with cinnamon sugar and serve immediately.
