Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 1 cup
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 1/3 cup
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Cinnamon sugar - for dusting (1 tablespoon sugar + 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and roll each piece into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat (about 180°C / 350°F).
  7. Fry each dough circle for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the buñuelos from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. While still warm, dust with cinnamon sugar and serve immediately.
