Ingredients
- Red lentils - 150 grams
- Water - 500 milliliters
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - for frying
Steps
- Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a saucepan, combine the lentils with 500 milliliters of water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the lentils are soft. Drain any excess water and let them cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked lentils, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, baking powder, and flour. Mix well until a thick batter forms.
- Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Use a spoon to drop spoonfuls of the lentil mixture into the hot oil, flattening them slightly to form fritters.
- Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fritters from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with a side of tahini sauce or yogurt dip.
