Ingredients

  • Red lentils - 150 grams
  • Water - 500 milliliters
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the lentils with 500 milliliters of water and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the lentils are soft. Drain any excess water and let them cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked lentils, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, baking powder, and flour. Mix well until a thick batter forms.
  5. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Use a spoon to drop spoonfuls of the lentil mixture into the hot oil, flattening them slightly to form fritters.
  6. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the fritters from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with a side of tahini sauce or yogurt dip.
