Ingredients

  • Dried fava beans - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional for extra heat)

Steps

  1. Soak the dried fava beans in plenty of water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the fava beans, then place them in a pot and cover with fresh water. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until tender.
  3. Once cooked, drain the beans and let them cool slightly.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the cooked fava beans, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes (if using). Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow the spices to coat the beans evenly.
  6. Remove from heat and drizzle with lemon juice. Toss in the chopped parsley.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature as a snack or appetizer.
