Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 300 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks, then boil them in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly.
  2. In a frying pan, heat a little oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the boiled potatoes. Add the sautéed onion and garlic, chopped cilantro, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, flour, and baking powder. Mix until well combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  5. In a deep frying pan, heat enough vegetable oil to submerge the potato balls over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry the potato balls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
