Ingredients

  • Green lentils - 150 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, grated
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Flour - 2 tablespoons (or more as needed)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Tahini sauce - for serving
  • Lettuce leaves - for serving
  • Tomato slices - for serving
  • Cucumber slices - for serving

Steps

  1. Rinse the lentils under cold water and place them in a saucepan with 500 ml of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes, or until tender. Drain and let cool slightly.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked lentils, sautéed onion and garlic, grated carrot, cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add flour to the lentil mixture until it holds together well; you may need more or less flour depending on moisture levels.
  5. Shape the mixture into 2 equal patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
  6. In the same skillet, heat the remaining olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the lentil patties and fry for about 5-6 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns and any desired toppings such as lettuce, tomato slices, and cucumber.
  8. Once cooked, assemble the burgers by placing the lentil patties on the buns, adding tahini sauce, and topping with fresh vegetables.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy your Spiced Lentil Burgers!
