Ingredients

  • Lamb shoulder, diced - 300 grams
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium (150 grams)
  • Garlic, minced - 3 cloves
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Water - 1 liter
  • Plain Greek yogurt - 150 grams
  • Fresh mint leaves, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and lamb pieces to the pot, cooking until the meat is browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Stir in the ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to toast the spices.
  4. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the lamb is tender.
  5. Once the lamb is cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly. Stir in the Greek yogurt until well combined.
  6. Add the chopped mint leaves and lemon juice, mixing thoroughly. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with extra mint leaves if desired.
