Ingredients
- phyllo dough - 6 sheets
- pistachios, shelled and crushed - 100 grams
- sugar - 50 grams
- water - 60 ml
- maple syrup - 30 ml
- ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- olive oil - 60 ml
- vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, maple syrup, and ground cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine crushed pistachios and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, brushing lightly with olive oil. Repeat this process with 3 more sheets, layering and brushing each with oil.
- Spread half of the pistachio mixture evenly over the layered phyllo.
- Add 2 more sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with olive oil. Spread the remaining pistachio mixture over this layer.
- Top with the final layer of phyllo sheets (2 sheets), brushing each with olive oil.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove baklava from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to soak for at least 10 minutes before serving.
