Ingredients

  • Fresh mussels - 500 grams
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Water - 100 milliliters

Steps

  1. Rinse the mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any dirt or debris. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.
  2. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Add the rinsed mussels to the pot along with water, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Cover the pot and cook for 5-7 minutes, shaking occasionally, until the mussels have opened up.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in the chopped parsley, and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  6. Serve immediately in bowls, drizzled with extra olive oil and a sprinkle of parsley if desired.
