- Cooked green lentils - 200 grams
- Cooked basmati rice - 100 grams
- Red onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic cloves - 2, minced
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Allspice - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
- Burger buns - 2
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Yogurt - 100 grams
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste (for yogurt sauce)
Steps
- In a large bowl, combine cooked lentils, cooked rice, half of the chopped red onion, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, allspice, salt, black pepper, breadcrumbs, and beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into two burger patties.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and heated through.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and the rest of the chopped red onion. Cook over low heat until caramelized, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a small bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, and salt to taste to make the yogurt sauce.
- To assemble, place each patty on a burger bun, top with caramelized onions, and drizzle with the yogurt sauce. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley.
