Ingredients
- Knafeh dough (shredded phyllo) - 100 grams
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
- Qashta (Middle Eastern cream) - 100 grams
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Milk - 100 ml
- Rose water - 1 tablespoon
- Pistachios (crushed) - 2 tablespoons
- Syrup (made from 50g sugar and 50ml water, boiled together) - for drizzling
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded knafeh dough with melted butter and mix until the dough is evenly coated.
- Spread half of the buttered dough evenly in a small baking dish, pressing it down to form a base.
- In another bowl, mix the qashta, sugar, milk, and rose water until smooth.
- Spread the qashta mixture over the layer of dough in the baking dish.
- Top with the remaining buttered dough, pressing it gently on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- While the knafeh is baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar and water in a small pot until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat.
- Once the knafeh is done, remove it from the oven and immediately drizzle the syrup over the hot dessert.
- Allow it to cool for a few minutes, then garnish with crushed pistachios before serving.
