Ingredients
- Knafeh dough - 100 grams
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
- Mozzarella cheese - 100 grams, shredded
- Akawi cheese - 100 grams, soaked in water and shredded
- Pistachios - 30 grams, crushed
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Water - 100 ml
- Orange blossom water - 1 tablespoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar dissolves, then remove from heat and add orange blossom water. Set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, mix the shredded Knafeh dough with melted butter until thoroughly combined.
- In a greased baking dish (around 20 cm x 20 cm), spread half of the Knafeh dough mixture evenly at the bottom, pressing down to form a layer.
- In another bowl, mix the shredded mozzarella and Akawi cheese together. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the Knafeh base.
- Cover the cheese with the remaining Knafeh dough, pressing down gently to secure it.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately pour the cooled sugar syrup evenly over the Knafeh.
- Let it soak for about 10 minutes, then garnish with crushed pistachios and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon before serving.
