- kataifi pastry - 100 grams
- unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
- milk - 200 ml
- heavy cream - 100 ml
- cornstarch - 20 grams
- sugar - 50 grams
- vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- rose water - 1 teaspoon
- pistachios - 30 grams, chopped
- honey - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, combine the kataifi pastry with melted butter and mix well to coat the strands evenly.
- Spread half of the buttered kataifi pastry evenly in the bottom of a baking dish to form a base layer.
- In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, cornstarch, sugar, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens to a custard-like consistency.
- Remove from heat and stir in the rose water. Allow the ashta mixture to cool slightly.
- Pour the ashta mixture over the kataifi base in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Top with the remaining kataifi pastry, pressing down gently to secure the layers.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before drizzling with honey and sprinkling with chopped pistachios.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
