- Bulgur wheat - 150 grams
- Ground lamb or beef - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Pine nuts - 30 grams, toasted
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Allspice - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Water - 400 milliliters
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Soak the bulgur wheat in water for about 20 minutes or until soft, then drain well.
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
- Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Stir in the toasted pine nuts, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper, then cook for another 2 minutes before removing from heat.
- In a large bowl, combine the soaked bulgur, cooked meat mixture, and chopped parsley, mixing well.
- Transfer half of the bulgur mixture into a greased baking dish, flattening it out evenly.
- Spread the remaining bulgur mixture on top and smooth it out.
- Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the top and score the surface with a knife in a diamond pattern.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before cutting into pieces and serving.
