Ingredients

  • Semolina - 100 grams
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Unsalted butter - 30 grams
  • Rosewater - 1 tablespoon
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped nuts (pistachios or almonds) - 30 grams

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil and add the sugar, stirring until dissolved.
  2. Once the sugar is dissolved, add the semolina gradually while continuously stirring to prevent lumps from forming.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens (about 10-15 minutes).
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the butter, rosewater, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased dish and spread it evenly. Let it cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  6. Once slightly cooled, cut the Khalta into squares or diamonds and top with chopped nuts.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature, drizzled with additional syrup if desired.
