Ingredients

  • Ground beef or lamb - 400 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Parsley - 1/4 cup, finely chopped
  • Pine nuts - 2 tablespoons, toasted
  • Allspice - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Tomato - 2 medium, sliced
  • Zucchini - 1 medium, sliced
  • Potato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 1/2 cup

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, parsley, toasted pine nuts, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Shape the meat mixture into small logs or patties and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  4. Layer the sliced potatoes, zucchini, and tomatoes over the kafta in the baking dish.
  5. Drizzle olive oil over the vegetables and kafta, then pour 1/2 cup of water into the dish to keep it moist while baking.
  6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  7. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the kafta is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
