Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough - 4 sheets
  • Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
  • Walnuts - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Almonds - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Water - 100 milliliters
  • Honey - 30 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - a pinch

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, almonds, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place a second sheet on top and brush again with butter.
  4. Sprinkle a portion of the nut mixture (about 1 tablespoon) along one edge of the phyllo dough.
  5. Roll the dough tightly over the nut mixture to form a log, then brush the outside with more melted butter.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining sheets of phyllo and nut mixture to create additional rolls.
  7. Place the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with any remaining melted butter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. While the rolls are baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, honey, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Once the rolls are done, remove them from the oven and immediately drizzle the warm syrup over the hot baklava rolls.
  11. Let the rolls cool slightly before serving.
