Baklava
Baklava is a deliciously rich and sweet pastry made of layers of filo dough, filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey syrup. This Lebanese version is perfect for a light lunch, offering a delightful combination of textures and flavors.

Ingredients
- Filo dough - 6 sheets
- Unsalted butter - 75 grams, melted
- Walnuts - 100 grams, finely chopped
- Pistachios - 50 grams, finely chopped
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 120 ml
- Honey - 50 grams
- Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix the finely chopped walnuts, pistachios, sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Lay out one sheet of filo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat with 3 more sheets, layering them on top of each other, brushing each with butter.
- Spread half of the nut mixture evenly over the layered filo dough.
- Layer 2 more sheets of filo dough on top, brushing each with butter, followed by the remaining nut mixture.
- Top with the last layer of 2 sheets of buttered filo dough, brushing the final sheet with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup evenly over the hot baklava.
- Let it cool completely before serving. Enjoy your homemade baklava!
