  • Unsalted butter - 75 grams, melted
  • Walnuts - 100 grams, finely chopped
  • Pistachios - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 120 ml
  • Honey - 50 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix the finely chopped walnuts, pistachios, sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Lay out one sheet of filo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat with 3 more sheets, layering them on top of each other, brushing each with butter.
  4. Spread half of the nut mixture evenly over the layered filo dough.
  5. Layer 2 more sheets of filo dough on top, brushing each with butter, followed by the remaining nut mixture.
  6. Top with the last layer of 2 sheets of buttered filo dough, brushing the final sheet with melted butter.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  10. Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup evenly over the hot baklava.
  11. Let it cool completely before serving. Enjoy your homemade baklava!
