Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Warm water - 150 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Zaatar spice blend - 3 tablespoons
  • Additional olive oil for topping - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions.
  7. Roll each portion into a round shape about 1 cm thick.
  8. Brush each round with olive oil and sprinkle generously with zaatar spice blend.
  9. Place the dough rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
