Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
- Water - 50 ml
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - a pinch
- Pitted dates - 80 grams
- Walnuts - 30 grams
- Cinnamon powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, olive oil, salt, and water to form a soft dough. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth, then cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the filling by finely chopping the pitted dates and walnuts. In a bowl, mix them together with cinnamon powder and honey until well combined.
- After the dough has rested, divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin circle, about 10 cm in diameter.
- Place a tablespoon of the date and walnut filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
- Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each filled pastry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Once cooked, remove from the skillet and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving. Enjoy your healthy Baalbek Sweets warm or at room temperature.
