Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Pitted dates - 80 grams
  • Walnuts - 30 grams
  • Cinnamon powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, olive oil, salt, and water to form a soft dough. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth, then cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the filling by finely chopping the pitted dates and walnuts. In a bowl, mix them together with cinnamon powder and honey until well combined.
  3. After the dough has rested, divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin circle, about 10 cm in diameter.
  4. Place a tablespoon of the date and walnut filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  5. Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each filled pastry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Once cooked, remove from the skillet and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving. Enjoy your healthy Baalbek Sweets warm or at room temperature.
