Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 1 cup
- active dry yeast - 1 teaspoon
- warm water - 1/2 cup
- maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- cinnamon powder - 1 teaspoon
- brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- chopped walnuts - 2 tablespoons
- coconut oil - 1 tablespoon
- vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and add the maple syrup. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt, then pour in the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth, then place it in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon powder, chopped walnuts, and vanilla extract to create the filling.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a disk and place a tablespoon of filling in the center.
- Wrap the dough around the filling and pinch to seal. Shape into a ball and place seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and let the filled dough balls rest for another 15 minutes.
- Brush the tops with melted coconut oil and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Vegan Hotteok warm!
