Ingredients
- Glutinous rice flour - 150 grams
- Water - 100 ml
- Sugar - 30 grams
- Red bean paste - 50 grams
- Cornstarch - 30 grams
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and sugar. Gradually add water while stirring until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
- Transfer the mixture into a heatproof dish or a steamer-safe bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap to prevent condensation.
- Steam the mixture over boiling water for about 20 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even cooking.
- Once the mixture becomes sticky and translucent, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Dust a clean surface with cornstarch. Once cool enough to handle, transfer the rice cake mixture onto the surface and knead gently for a few minutes.
- Divide the dough into small portions and flatten each piece into a disc. Place about 1 teaspoon of red bean paste in the center and fold the edges over to seal it, forming a ball.
- Roll the filled tteok in cornstarch to prevent sticking, and optionally sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
