- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1/2 cup
- Plant-based milk - 1/2 cup
- Pizza dough - 1 pre-made (approximately 250 grams)
- Korean BBQ sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Vegan cheese shreds - 1 cup
- Green onions - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then slice it into 1 cm thick pieces.
- Set up a breading station by placing flour in one bowl, plant-based milk in another, and panko breadcrumbs in a third.
- Season the flour with salt and black pepper. Dip each tofu slice first in the flour, then in the plant-based milk, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Fry the breaded tofu slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to fit your baking tray. Transfer to the tray and spread a layer of Korean BBQ sauce over the base.
- Sprinkle the vegan cheese shreds evenly over the sauce, then layer the crispy tofu katsu on top.
- Drizzle additional Korean BBQ sauce over the tofu and sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted.
- Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, slice, and serve hot.
