Ingredients

  • Extra-firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Mirin - 30 ml
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
  • Carrot - 1/2, shredded
  • Green onions - 1, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1.5 cm thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
  3. Place the tofu slices in the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Remove the tofu from the marinade and dust each slice with cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  5. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the tofu slices and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. While the tofu is cooking, toast the burger buns lightly in a separate pan or oven.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on each bun, followed by a slice of the cooked tofu, cucumber slices, shredded carrot, and chopped green onions.
  8. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and cover with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately.
