- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 4
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
- Vegan mayo - 2 tablespoons
- Sriracha - 1 tablespoon (optional)
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then crumble it into a mixing bowl.
- Add minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, gochujang, sesame oil, chopped green onions, and cornstarch to the crumbled tofu. Mix well until combined.
- Fold in the panko breadcrumbs until the mixture holds together. If it's too wet, add a little more cornstarch.
- Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly if desired.
- Spread vegan mayo on the bottom half of each bun, then add lettuce, the tofu patty, tomato slices, cucumber slices, and a drizzle of sriracha if using.
- Top with the other half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your spicy tofu burger!
