Ingredients

  • Pork belly - 300 grams
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 250 ml

Steps

  1. Start by scoring the skin of the pork belly in a crosshatch pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat.
  2. Rub the pork belly with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and gochugaru, ensuring an even coating over the skin and meat.
  3. Place the seasoned pork belly in a pot and add water. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 60 minutes until the pork is tender.
  4. Remove the pork belly from the pot and let it cool slightly, then pat the skin dry with paper towels.
  5. Heat sesame oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the pork belly, skin side down.
  6. Fry the pork belly for about 10-15 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown. Flip the pork to crisp the meat side for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from the heat, let it cool for a few minutes, then cut into bite-sized cracklings.
