Ingredients

  • Cooked short-grain rice - 1 cup (200g)
  • Fresh perilla leaves - 10 leaves
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned (50g)
  • Cucumber - 1 small, julienned (50g)
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Scallions - 2, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (10g)

Steps

  1. Cook the short-grain rice according to package instructions and let it cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and salt to taste. Mix well.
  3. Add the julienned carrot and cucumber to the rice mixture and gently fold in the chopped scallions.
  4. Take a perilla leaf, place a spoonful of the rice mixture at the base of the leaf, and roll it up tightly like a wrap.
  5. Repeat the process with the remaining perilla leaves and rice mixture.
  6. Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top of the rolled perilla leaves before serving.
  7. Serve the Perilla Leaf Rice with extra soy sauce on the side for dipping.
