Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 100 grams
  • Red beans - 50 grams
  • Water - 800 milliliters
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped scallions - 1 tablespoon
  • Toasted sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Rinse the red beans and soak them in water for 2-3 hours or overnight for better cooking results.
  3. In a pot, combine the soaked glutinous rice and 800 milliliters of fresh water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Add the soaked red beans to the pot, along with 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Continue to simmer for another 20-25 minutes until the rice and beans are soft and the mixture has a porridge-like consistency.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil for added flavor.
  7. Serve warm, garnished with chopped scallions and toasted sesame seeds.
