Ingredients

  • Beef brisket - 200 grams, thinly sliced
  • Jasmine rice - 100 grams (1/2 cup), rinsed
  • Water - 1 liter
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons (ensure it's Halal)
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned
  • Mushrooms (shiitake or button) - 100 grams, sliced

Steps

  1. In a pot, heat the sesame oil over medium heat and add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the sliced beef brisket to the pot and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, salt, and black pepper to taste. Add the julienned carrot and sliced mushrooms, then simmer for another 10 minutes.
  5. While the soup is simmering, cook the rinsed jasmine rice in a separate pot according to package instructions.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, divide it into two bowls. Ladle the soup over the rice, ensuring each bowl has an equal amount of beef and vegetables.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
