Ingredients

  • Short-grain rice - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 1/4 cups
  • Myeongran jeot (fermented shrimp) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Nori (seaweed), cut into strips - 1 sheet

Steps

  1. Rinse the short-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  4. While the rice is cooking, prepare the sauce by mixing the myeongran jeot, sesame oil, soy sauce, gochugaru, and half of the chopped green onions in a small bowl.
  5. Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and transfer it to serving bowls.
  6. Drizzle the sauce over the rice and mix gently to combine.
  7. Garnish with the remaining green onions, sesame seeds, and nori strips before serving.
