Myeongnan-jorim is a traditional Korean side dish featuring tender, marinated pollock roe that is simmered to perfection. This dish is rich in flavor and provides a delightful umami experience that pairs wonderfully with steamed rice.

Ingredients
- Pollock roe - 150 grams
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Mirin - 15 ml
- Sesame oil - 10 ml
- Water - 100 ml
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Red chili pepper - 1, sliced (optional)
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Black sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, sugar, and water to make the marinade.
- Rinse the pollock roe under cold water and pat dry.
- In a pan over medium heat, add the marinade and bring it to a gentle simmer.
- Add the pollock roe to the pan, being careful not to break it, and simmer for about 8-10 minutes until the roe is heated through and absorbs the flavors.
- Add chopped green onions and sliced red chili pepper (if using) in the last 2 minutes of cooking.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle black sesame seeds on top before serving.
- Serve warm with steamed rice.
