  • Mackerel - 200 grams, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Mirin - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onion - 1 stalk, chopped
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon, for garnish

Steps

  1. In a medium pot, combine the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, mirin, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Add the mackerel pieces to the pot and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, occasionally spooning the sauce over the fish.
  4. After the fish is cooked through and tender, add the chopped green onion and sesame oil. Stir gently to incorporate.
  5. Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with sesame seeds.
