- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green onion - 1 stalk, chopped
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon, for garnish
Steps
- In a medium pot, combine the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, mirin, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
- Add the mackerel pieces to the pot and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, occasionally spooning the sauce over the fish.
- After the fish is cooked through and tender, add the chopped green onion and sesame oil. Stir gently to incorporate.
- Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with sesame seeds.
