Ingredients
- Large sweet onions - 2
- Soy sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Peel and slice the sweet onions into thick rings, about 1.5 cm thick.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
- Place the onion rings in a large zip-top bag or a shallow dish, and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour in the refrigerator.
- Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Remove the onions from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, and place them on the grill.
- Grill the onions for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are tender and have nice grill marks.
- Once grilled, remove the onions from the heat and let them rest for a couple of minutes.
- Serve the grilled onions warm, garnished with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
