Ingredients

  • Eggs - 3 large
  • Water - 1 cup (240 ml)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onion - 1 tablespoon, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 tablespoon, finely diced
  • Soy sauce - 1 teaspoon (ensure Halal certified)
  • Black pepper - a pinch

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, crack the 3 large eggs and whisk them until well combined.
  2. Add 1 cup of water, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to the eggs, and whisk until smooth.
  3. Strain the egg mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof bowl to remove any lumps for a silky texture.
  4. Cover the bowl with aluminum foil to prevent water from dripping into the mixture while steaming.
  5. Fill a pot with about 2 inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  6. Place the covered bowl into the pot, ensuring the water doesn't touch the egg mixture, and cover the pot with a lid.
  7. Steam for about 15-20 minutes or until the egg is set but still slightly jiggles in the center.
  8. Once cooked, remove the bowl from the pot and let it cool slightly.
  9. Garnish with finely chopped green onion, diced carrot, and a drizzle of soy sauce and serve hot.
