Ingredients
- Eggs - 3 large
- Water - 1 cup (240 ml)
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Green onion - 1 tablespoon, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 tablespoon, finely diced
- Soy sauce - 1 teaspoon (ensure Halal certified)
- Black pepper - a pinch
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, crack the 3 large eggs and whisk them until well combined.
- Add 1 cup of water, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to the eggs, and whisk until smooth.
- Strain the egg mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof bowl to remove any lumps for a silky texture.
- Cover the bowl with aluminum foil to prevent water from dripping into the mixture while steaming.
- Fill a pot with about 2 inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Place the covered bowl into the pot, ensuring the water doesn't touch the egg mixture, and cover the pot with a lid.
- Steam for about 15-20 minutes or until the egg is set but still slightly jiggles in the center.
- Once cooked, remove the bowl from the pot and let it cool slightly.
- Garnish with finely chopped green onion, diced carrot, and a drizzle of soy sauce and serve hot.
